Walking in…Shezad Dawood

Shezad Dawood ‘HMS Alice Liddell’ 2022.

St Pancras Wires, The Circle, St. Pancras International Station, Pancras Road N1.

Dawood’s commissioned site responsive art installation, is a ‘new age travel vessel’, suspended from the ceiling, as if in flight. It’s form combines elements of the neo-gothic architecture of the station with a futuristic space ship. Dawood was inspired by the communities of London, steam-punk and the iconic character of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ (the original manuscript being housed nearby in the British Library). Dawood sees Alice as ‘a traveller of our times: a proto-science fiction heroine who explored the quantum possibility of multiple but connected realities and universes.’ The title refers to the real person Carroll based his character on.

A QR code on site enables additional sound and visual elements to the installation, a new ‘augmented reality filter’, made in collaboration with sound artists and musicians.

The installation can be found at the start of the Orange Walk.
