Two films by the distinguished American artist Bill Viola, have been gifted to Tate and are on permanent loan to St. Paul’s Cathedral. ‘Martyrs (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)’ 2014 and ‘Mary’ 2016, video, running times 7:15 and 13:13 minutes respectively. Full of the intensity of all Viola’s work, here a profound level is reached through the subject matter and the setting. Situated at the east end of the cathedral.

The brave and breathtaking extension to Tate Modern, known as the Switch House is now open. Architects Hertzog and de Meuron’s ten storey brick pyramid rises from the subterranean oil tanks, through galleries of contemporary art to a panoramic pinnacle. Though best experienced than described, one word says it all, awesome.
