Tracey Emin ‘I want my time with you’ LED installation (detail)

Tracey Emin ‘I want my time with you’ LED lights, 20m long, temporary installation, 2018. St Pancras International Station, upper concourse.

This year’s Terrace Wires public art commission, an annual installation organised by St Pancras in partnership with the Royal Academy, is by the infamous everywoman Tracey Emin RA.

Suspended in the vaulted ceiling of this iconic building, Emin’s signature hand written personal light installation message appears to float between the clock and the vast sculpture of the lovers below. The refreshingly colourful installation expresses a personal romantic and universal desire that Emin aims to be uplifting as it welcomes passengers arriving by train from Europe. The message resonates too with our current political European relations and negotiations.

Emin described the setting ‘in a Freudian way’, the trains representing the male and the station representing the female. She simply said the installation’s colour pink will make people happy ‘because the pink will make them feel good.’

For the greatest feel good effect the installation is best seen at night.

The installation can be viewed at the start of the Orange Walk.
