Henry Moore, Two Piece Reclining Figure No. 1
Walking in…
Henry Moore’s ‘Two Piece Reclining Figure No. 1’ in McGregor Courtyard, Atterbury Street, has returned to its circular plinth after a lengthy loan to Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Moore chose the circular plinth to ensure a multitude of view points, he had originally hoped for a mechanical turntable to be installed. The two-piece figure also affords multiple view points in ‘unexpected’ ways. Moore said ‘as you move around it, the two parts overlap or they open up.’ The courtyard is usually accessible during the working week, to view the sculpture close up and all around.
For more Moore, the Henry Moore Studios and Gardens at Perry Green in Hertfordshire, is in itself a magnificent walk of art, where Moore’s sculptures can be experienced in a rural setting.
