Tracey Emin ‘Keep Me Safe’
Walking in…
Tracey Emin ‘Keep Me Safe’ neon, 2006.
Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington House, Piccadilly, W1. Sited in the corner of the courtyard, above the entrance to the Keeper’s House.
The Keeper is the name given to the Head of the Royal Academy Schools. The Schools are at the heart of this organisation and the role of the Keeper is currently held by Cathie Pilkington. The Keeper’s House which included a top floor studio, used to come with the job. Now the Keeper’s House is home to a restaurant and bar for Friends of the Royal Academy.
Tracey Emin is an elected RA (Royal Academician). The Royal Academy is governed by elected artists, although steeped in tradition, each new generation of RAs both support and revitalise the organisation. Emin is known for her neon signs, in her signature handwriting, typically a saying that is both personal and universal.
